Madeira Whale Museum launches a children's book
On June 6th 2011, by 10:30 am, the EB1/PE school in Machico held the presentation ceremony of the book Pintarolas e o futuro do mar – Um contributo para a Rede Natura 2000.
This book was created during the partnership between the Educational Services of the Madeira Whale Museum (MBM) and the Library of the EB1/PE School of Machico. Its launch coincided with the Book Fair promoted annually by the school.
Pintarolas e o futuro do mar – Um contributo para a Rede Natura 2000 was written by the students of the 4th grade of that school, a process that allowed us to develop creative and collaborative writing. The students wrote tales, fables, poems, riddles, acrostics, Screed and tongue twisters. The theme that guided the writing of the book was the CETACEOSMADEIRA II project that is being carried out by the scientific team of the Madeira Whale Museum.
In the presentation we benefited from the presence of the Regional Secretary of Education, the Mayor of Machico, the President of the Junta de Freguesia of Machico, the Machico school Delegate and the Director of the Madeira Whale Museum, among other guests.
The children who wrote the book recited their lines, while some colleagues played music with their music teacher. After speeches from some of the guests, each student received a certificate of participation and a copy of the book.
At the site of presentation of the book was also the exhibition Natura 2000 network developed under the project CETACEOSMADEIRA II, funded by the Community Initiative Programme LIFE + (LIFE07 NAT/P/000646,) and the Municipality of Machico, which will cover the Autonomous Region of Madeira over the years 2011 and 2012.
