Press Conference

On July 20^th at 10 am a press conference was held in the Machico marina, onboard the research vessel Ziphius, in order to divulge the CETACEOSMADEIRAII project and its goals.  The press conference had the participation of the mayor of Machico City - Dr. Emanuel Gomes, the Environmental Regional Director representive - Dr. Dinarte Teixeira, the media, the Madeira Whale Museum (MWM) director - Dr. Luís Freitas and the MWM research team.

In a first approach the design and preparation of the CETACEOSMADEIRAII project application was explained, it began in 2007 with the purpose of carrying on the study and conservation of cetaceans in the Madeira Archipelago, which started with the CetaceosMadeira Project (LIFE99 NAT/P/006432) that ran from 2000 to 2004. That project raised some questions related to the cetaceans’ conservation in the archipelago that needed to be addressed at a later time, and these were incorporated in the goals of the CETACEOSMADEIRAII Project.
